Please join us for a conversation with John Jancik, author of Highpointing for Tibet, and John Ackerly, former ICT President and founding member of the Rowell Fund for Tibet, a fund that gives small grants to Tibetans who are working to promote their culture and environment in the arenas of environmental conservation, photography, humanitarian issues, journalism/literature, and women’s projects.

Highpointing for Tibet chronicles John Jancik’s journey across the United States to mountains such as Mount Whitney, Mount Rainier, Granite Peak, Mount Katahdin, and beyond the U.S. borders to Ecuador, Norway, Sweden, Japan, Australia, Spain, and more as Team HighPoint chases adventure in support of The Rowell Fund for Tibet. Please join us for a conversation with John Jancik and John Ackerly, former ICT President and founding member of the Rowell Fund for Tibet, an organization that gives small grants to Tibetans who are working to promote their culture and environment in the arenas of environmental conservation, photography, humanitarian issues, journalism/literature, and women’s projects. The Fund is managed by the International Campaign for Tibet. Tibetans from any country are eligible to apply.

Speaker Bios:

John Jancik was born and raised in Wisconsin, but early on was drawn to the mountains and has called Colorado home for more than thirty years. John has climbed on six continents and successfully reached more than sixty-five domestic and international highpoints. In 2002, he co-authored a book (Under the Midnight Sun) about his two expeditions to the nothernmost land on earth; North Peary Land, Greenland. Recently, John co-authored Highpointing for Tibet: A Journey Supporting The Rowell Fund, detailing his experience traveling across the U.S. and abroad climbing highpoints to raise money in support of Tibetan culture.

John Ackerly was the President of the International Campaign for Tibet for 10 years (until 2009) and worked for ICT for a total of 21 years. He worked closely with the U.S. Congress and United Nations bodies to address the crisis in Tibet and has conducted 5 fact-finding trips to Tibet to investigate conditions. Mr. Ackerly attended Dartmouth College and the Washington College of Law, and researched the Romanian dissident movement at the University of Bucharest from 1978-1980. Prior to joining ICT, John practiced civil rights law in a private firm in Mississippi. John currently heads a non-profit renewable energy organization called Alliance for Green Heat.
