Nobel Peace Laureates the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela in South Africa in 1996.

The Board and staff of the International Campaign for Tibet mourn the passing of inspirational leader Nelson Mandela. ICT Executive Chairman Lodi Gyaltsen Gyari said that he “admired former President Mandela not only for his courage and persistence in fighting for the rights of his people but for his efforts in working towards national reconciliation.”

Calling him “an example for all humanity” His Holiness the Dalai Lama first met his fellow Nobel Peace Laureate Nelson Mandela in 1996 in South Africa. They met again in 2004.

You can watch a video of them together after their first meeting here:  http://ancarchives.org.za/president-nelson-mandela-with-the-dalai-lama/
