Tibetans and Tibet supporters are organizing a series of events on April 25, 2002, to mark the 13th birthday of the Panchen Lama, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, and nearly 7 years since his abduction by Chinese authorities.

The events of April 25 will include:

  • The introduction of a resolution for the release of the Panchen Lama in the United States Congress
  • A daylong vigil at the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C. 2300 Connecticut Ave., NW.
  • A candle light vigil at the Chinese Embassy in the evening.

Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao is visiting Washington, D.C., soon. Protesters are expected to call on Hu to respond to international pressure to provide information on the whereabouts of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima and to work to free the young Panchen Lama.
