OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT OFFICER


The International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) is a non-profit international advocacy organization with offices in the United States and Europe. Guided by the vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, ICT is committed to supporting the Tibetan peoples’ cultural, political and social rights and freedoms and their efforts to preserve the unique Tibetan identity. ICT believes in actively engaging the Chinese people in order to achieve true understanding between them and the Tibetans and to bring about necessary and peaceful democratic change in China. ICT undertakes efforts to obtain international support for Tibetans and their peaceful struggle; it supports Tibetan refugees; advocates for human rights and freedoms for the Tibetan people; and works to promote a negotiated solution for Tibet.

ICT is looking for an experienced, enterprising, and motivated person who wants to work on meaningful, impactful support for Tibet and its people. The Outreach and Engagement Officer position combines program management responsibilities with assisting ICT’s President to ensure a high level of collaboration, communication and alignment between the four offices and ICT’s senior leadership. A deep commitment to ICT’s mission and an understanding of Tibetan situation and cause will be highly desirable. The position is based in Washington DC and will report to the President.

RESPONSIBILITIES

(subject to discretion of President)

Outreach to Tibetan community:

  • Serve as liaison with Tibetan community.
  • Lead ICT’s Tibetan empowerment programs.

Executive Support:

  • Serve as liaison for the President with the Board, staff, and promoting effective communication, coordination and information-sharing among offices.
  • Prepare briefing materials, and reports for the President’s engagements, and provide strategic support in decision making, ensuring accuracy and quality on implementing ICT’s mission and priorities.
  • Stay updated on relevant human rights and political developments to provide timely insights and support to the President.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.

Operations Support:

  • Facilitate regular meetings of the International Coordinating Council, prepare materials, and ensure timely follow-up on action items.
  • Support the President in certain grant management and help coordinate with program staff to ensure fulfilment of program activities and funding requirements.
  • Coordinate cross-office projects and initiatives, promoting collaboration and sharing of best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as public policy, international relations, or non-profit management). A master’s degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience and leadership in project management with ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Proficiency in using office productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite) and project management tools.
  • Proficiency in conversational Tibetan (ability to read and write in Tibetan being a plus.)
