On the 55th anniversary of the Tibet uprising, ICT has released a report which finds that Chinese microbloggers who travel to Tibet are revealing a smothering level of militarization that Chinese authorities are trying to hide. Our review of China’s version of Twitter uncovered hundreds of images and postings by Chinese tourists who were shocked to find a heavy security presence in Tibetan areas, which differed from the Chinese government’s portrayal of a tranquil Tibet through propaganda.
