UNITED NATIONS

ICT speaks up for the Tibetan people at the United Nations.

By advocating for Tibetans before various UN bodies, we help raise the issue of Tibet on the global stage.

ICT’s work at the UN includes testifying before different UN bodies, organizing seminars and briefings and advocating for special rapporteurs and working groups to address the human rights issues facing the Tibetan people, such as the ongoing persecution of Tibetan Buddhists.

Every year, we take part in the sessions of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva in order to interact with UN and government representatives from around the world and educate them on the harsh realities of Tibetan life. ICT works with the Central Tibetan Administration’s UN team and Tibet groups to build support and relationships with UN delegates.

We also help organize rallies and other activities at the UN in Geneva that bring attention to the current situation in Tibet. These events include gatherings where Tibetans and their supporters highlight China’s violations of their rights and demand an end to China’s oppression of the Tibetan people.

For their part, UN agencies have criticized China’s appalling human rights record, called for the release of Tibetan political prisoners and taken steps to support Tibetan refugees. But more needs to be done as China extends its influence at the UN and beyond.

As one of ICT’s supporters, you can help make sure the UN always hears the voices of the Tibetan people.
